Numbers available for pickup from Up and Running East Sheen from Thursday 31st March

Race numbers & timing chips can be collected from UP&RUNNING in Sheen up until the day before the race or on the day before the race. Please remember to bring safety pins to attach your number to you vest or running t-shirt.

At Race HQ, on the day the team will be handing out numbers from 7.45 am. Please ensure you leave plenty of time to travel to the start to pick up your number. Remember, the race starts at 9 am.

The Race HQ and the Start and Finish area are situated in the Hartington Road/University of Westminster playing field, which backs onto the River Thames. As this is a playing field please No Dogs.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Chiswick mainline rail station is an 800m (10 minute) walk to the Start and is on the Waterloo – Hounslow line, stopping at Clapham Junction. The 190 bus runs between Hammersmith and Richmond tube stations and will drop you near the Start. As will the 272 from Shepherd’s Bush.  If you are arriving at Turnham Green tube station, the E3 bus outside the station runs to Chiswick rail station.

PARKING: Is not permitted in the University of Westminster and Roko Sports Club ground, as this is private property.

Competitors are asked not to park in the road adjacent to the start area which should be kept as clear as possible for emergency vehicles. Please do not park on the corner of Cavendish Road and Bolton Road where the 272 bus parks. There are no parking restrictions in the surrounding area but we would recommend public transport as the best way to get to the race.

Portable toilets will be available near the Race village, at the back of the Start/Finish field. We will have more loos than last year, Please do not “go back to nature” near to the towpath or the houses on Ibis Lane! if we have complaints like last year, the race will be stopped.

Kit bags can be dropped off at the baggage tent next to Race HQ, bag tags will be provided. Please note the organisers cannot accept responsibility for any personal belongings.

Please come ready to race as there are no discreet changing facilities!

There are two drinks stations on the course. The first water station is at Kew Railway Bridge, just before you reach mile 3. You will come back past this water station on your return at half way between miles 7 and 8.  The second water station is by Richmond Swimming Pools, between miles 5 and 6.

Water will also be provided at the Finish.

The race is a scenic ten mile multi-terrain race along the Thames Towpath, incorporating the towpath between Chiswick, Richmond and Kew. The route, while multi terrain is flat and fast so good for those runners aiming for a 10 miler PB. There will be markers at every mile. The Start field is on grass, as are parts of Old Deer Park at 5 miles. Please be aware that the grass could be slippery and wet.

We have chip to chip timing, and it may take a few minutes to cross the start line, don’t worry it won’t affect your timing and will help ease congestion in the early stages. However if you are going for an overall or age group prize, position yourself near to the front as these are based on gun to chip timing. We will provide marker boards with estimated finish times; try to be realistic where you stand!

Between miles 3 and 5 there are long, sections on the towpath without a marshal. If you see someone having a problem, please inform the next marshal who will organize assistance.

Just after 5 miles you will cross the Old Deer Park footbridge; this is a short but narrow bridge so please listen to the marshal’s instructions. Be aware of and give way to other members of the public using the bridge too. It could be wet there and if it has flooded we may have to revert to using Twickenham bridge.

There is a busy junction to cross at around 5.5 miles after the 2nd water station, please pay attention to traffic turning in to Richmond Pools, both ahead and from behind you. We have timed the traffic lights and they are red for pedestrians for about 20 seconds and green for you for over a minute. Don’t risk it! Take a little break.

>> For your safety and others, at any time do not overtake by running on the road <<

Our marshals will warn you of traffic but they cannot stop vehicles, this is why for safety reasons runners are asked not to run with earphones from personal music devices, as you need to be able to hear the marshals give you vital instructions and of course hear them cheering you on!

If you do so, you run the risk of being disqualified.

Please note this course is unsuitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs or racing with dogs.

Entrants are reminded that they should be able to complete 10 miles in 2 hours and that we cannot guarantee full support after 2.5 hours, although timekeepers will stay longer.

All this advice is for your own safety and other road users. Without your co-operation it is not possible to hold a race on public roads. In advance we thank you for your help with keeping yourself and others safe, and keeping the future of road racing events ‘alive and well’.

FTTT Route

As well as our Thames Towpath 10 race, there will be football matches taking place from 10.30 am on the University playing fields. As matches are being played, unfortunately dogs are not allowed within the enclosed playing field. Spectators and competitors are requested to keep off the football pitches at all times.

To prevent the possibility of broken glass on the playing field, please keep your glass memento in your rucksack or in the bags kindly provided by UP&RUNNING
